Former Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic has spoken to the Russian press about Jose Mourinho and Manchester United’s struggles this season.
Ivanovic worked with Mourinho at Chelsea for two and a half seasons and the Serbian believes the Manchester United boss is the ideal manager to play under.
In an interview with Ria Novosti, Ivanovic was asked about his former manager and the problems at Old Trafford: “Lots of players who worked with Mourinho will never say anything bad about him. He is almost impossible to criticise. He knows what he is doing and does it perfectly. I know it’s difficult what he is experiencing at Manchester United, but I think he will cope. No one is satisfied with this situation.”
The 34 year old went on to give his thoughts about the Manchester United players: “In my opinion, I think it is all down to the players. At Manchester United, they have many inexperienced players playing in key positions, so it doesn’t work for them at the moment.”
Following yesterday’s disappointing home draw with Crystal Palace Mourinho questioned the desire of his players and how the disappointment would impact them. The result leaves the Red Devils in 7th position in the Premier League table and they face a tough task to finish in the top four.
Mourinho recently spoke about being able to break into the Champions League spots in the coming weeks, but with games against Arsenal and Liverpool coming up it’s hard to see this happening based on the stalemate with Crystal Palace.
Manchester United are currently seven points behind 4th placed Chelsea after thirteen games.
