It was always likely that Viktor Gyökeres would be receiving transfer interest ahead of the summer window.
In January, the Brighton & Hove Albion player made his first two appearances for the Swedish national team. A few days after his debut against Finland, the 20 year old striker scored his first international goal against Iceland.
The Swedish season runs on a different calendar, to avoid the harsh windows, and their transfer windows are different too. The current one closes on April 4th, and then the next window opens in mid July.
Sweden’s FotbollDirekt report AIK have made a ‘cheeky’ attempt for the Brighton ‘super talent’, and have contacted him.
They quote the club’s sport director, Björn Wesström, as saying: “We’re always investigating opportunities for buying or borrowing in all windows and AIK and Viktor Gyökeres would be a strong combination.”
Wesström didn’t want to confirm or deny having contacted Brighton directly, and it’s explained the Premier League club have so far held off all attempts.
But with the youngster getting so little football, a chance to play at AIK may not be such a bad idea.
