For years, Ander Herrera was a Manchester United player.

Joining the Red Devils in 2014, he stayed at Old Trafford for five years before leaving for Paris Saint-Germain on a free.

During that time, he played numerous times against Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham, but the manager is now his boss at the French side, taking over from the recently dismissed Thomas Tuchel.

Their start together has been decent, but they now face the task of playing Barcelona in the Champions League, which they will have to do without Neymar or Angel Di Maria.

Herrera, however, has full confidence in the former Spurs manager, who has already proven himself from his time in London.

Speaking to EFE and relayed by Mundo Deportivo, he said: “Mauricio changed the history of Tottenham, he is a coach who wants possession for 90 minutes. He reminds of Marcelo Bielsa (who was Herrera’s manager at Athletic Bilbao. He suffers when the opponent has the ball. That’s physically demands. He’s a very passionate coach. He’s Argentine and we all know how they are with football”.

We’ll have to wait and see if Pochettino can replicate his success at Paris Saint-Germain, where the goal is to win the Champions League.

He came awfully close to doing so with Tottenham, and there will be hope in France’s capital that he is the right man to finally put the well-funded club at the top of European football.
