As Benfica’s squad reunites for the 2024/25 season, Paulo Bernardo is still to know what will happen to him in the coming weeks.

Portuguese newspaper Record today shares a story claiming there are several young players from the Eagles who now have the dream of impressing in pre-season to keep a place in the squad. The midfielder, who spent the last season on loan at Celtic, lives in a bit of a different situation.

The outlet points out that the 22-year-old is still waiting for the clubs to find an agreement so he can join Celtic on a permanent move.

In his time on loan at Celtic, Bernardo had four goals and three assists in 33 appearances, and his performances were good enough for the club to try to keep him.

The problem is that the Hoops didn’t want to pay the €7.5m that had been previously agreed with Benfica to make the move permanent, so they now negotiate a new fee.

It had also been said that Bernardo’s salary at Benfica was too high, and that’s something being discussed at the negotiations table as well.
