Jota joined Celtic on loan from Benfica in September 2021, with the Scottish Premiership club having a buying option of around €7m.

The 23-year-old scored 14 goals for Celtic and added 13 assists, and was clearly an important player for manager Ange Postecoglou.

Therefore, the Glasgow club have been expected to get the deal done this summer and keep Jota permanently, but things have dragged on a little.

Monday’s edition of Record reports the situation will be sorted out in the coming days. Celtic intend to seal the permanent signing ‘by the end of the week’. They’ve decided to trigger the clause and just need to finalise some details of Jota’s personal contract with the club.

Record report other clubs have been hovering to potentially steal the player away from Celtic, but they haven’t had much success and the assumption is Jota will be with the Hoops again next season.

According to the report, Benfica will still keep a percentage of a future sale, entitling them to more money should Celtic sell for a profit.
