Carlos Tevez has found himself at the centre of a big transfer story, despite having nothing to do with it for 12 years.
What? Well, on Thursday quotes appeared from Tevez’s agent saying the player was on the verge of leaving Boca Juniors for Corinthians, and had turned down interest from England.
Goal reported that Tevez had ‘snubbed’ Premier League clubs to ‘return’ to Corinthians.
Football Italia went with the headline: Agent: ‘Juventus wanted Tevez back’
Gazzetta dello Sport, Mundo Deportivo and various newspapers in the UK and beyond all reported it, with different slants. It’s everywhere.
There’s just one very big problem… the quotes are from 2004.
Twelve years ago, Tevez did leave Boca Juniors for Corinthians, and his agent did say those things to La Nacion.
At the time of the quotes, Tevez was two years before his West Ham move, which then led him to Manchester United, Manchester City, Juventus, and back to Boca Juniors.
He’s surely not about to do the same thing, but time travelling back 12 years would certainly be interesting. He’s got so much to look forward to.
