Since Rodri picked up his potentially season-ending injury for Manchester City, there’s been rumours the Premier League champions will move for a midfielder in the winter market.
Pep Guardiola’s side haven’t been in their best form recently, and that’s further encouraged claims of a January transfer effort.
Multiple names have been linked and whilst Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimarães certainly isn’t one of the few to be mentioned most often, his name has cropped up occasionally.
That’s caught the attention in Brazil, so with Globo Esporte interviewing the Newcastle United star they took the opportunity to ask him about Manchester City rumours and how he feels to know Pep Guardiola rates him.
In response to that questioning, Globo Esporte quote Bruno Guimarães as saying: “I believe that at my club I am an idol and I have a lot of respect. I am the captain of Newcastle and it is something that if you had asked me three years ago, my biggest dream would have been to play in the Premier League. Playing, being an idol, being captain is something wonderful. I really like Newcastle.
“Of course, having Manchester City’s suggestions shows that I am at a high level, but it was nothing more than suggestions. I know that Guardiola likes my football, it is normal to have great coaches who admire your football. We have spoken once after the interview, I praised his work, he praised my work, but it was nothing more than that.”
Whenever he’s been given the opportunity to do so, Bruno Guimarães has consistently spoken about his appreciation of Newcastle United and the connection he feels with the Magpies.
He’s not one to talk up transfer rumours and rock the boat regarding his future, and the 27-year-old has approached this interview the same.
The Brazilian is clearly flattered by Manchester City links, but won’t let it get between him and Newcastle United… especially when rumours is all it is.
