Brighton and Hove Albion’s chances of keeping Ansu Fati permanently may be boosted by the fact he ‘does not forget the betrayal’ that made him join the club in the first place.

That’s according to El Confidencial, who say the player ‘smiles again’ after his start to life with the Seagulls and subsequent return to the Spanish national team.

The newspaper reports that Fati is ‘finally beginning to see the light’ at the end of the tunnel after a couple of seasons of ‘great suffering and pain’ at Barcelona.

He’s yet to get to his absolute best at Brighton but there is a feeling he is on the path to recovering it and, in the process, proving to Xavi that he was wrong about him.

Xavi almost forced Fati out of Barcelona this summer with a series of comments making it clear that the door was open for a departure. This was further hammered home by the arrival of Joao Felix on loan.

This led Fati to understand that Barcelona did not have the time or patience necessary to help him recover his best form and he went to Brighton, where Roberto De Zerbi was extremely enthusiastic about his arrival. Indeed, the Italian convinced him of the move in conversations between the pair.

He and Brighton know they have a ‘capital player’ on their hands and are taking care of him, so that in a matter of weeks they will have a leader on the pitch.

The care they’re showing him is working out and he is beginning to show what he is capable of, despite just the one goal so far.

The belief he is on the road to recovery and his return to Spain’s set up, despite only coming because of injuries elsewhere, is another positive step.

Fati is more than grateful for what he has with Brighton, and it remains to be seen what happens between now and the end of the season.

He ‘does not forget the betrayal’ that made him leave Barcelona, who didn’t show him nearly as much love as his current club have, something that hasn’t gone unnoticed.
