From Brazil: Fresh ‘imminent’ slant for Newcastle United, media response to Lyon statement

There’s a lot of contradiction going on right now regarding the potential transfer of Bruno Guimarães from Lyon to Newcastle United.

The player is currently with Brazil on international duty, and while the local media there are claiming a deal is close, the Ligue 1 side have gone out of their way to publicly deny an agreement with the Magpies.

Now, UOL are sticking to their guns, making it clear that ‘Guimarães’ departure from Lyon is imminent’, as the French club and Newcastle have indeed reached an agreement of €40m.

This wouldn’t be the first time Lyon came out with these kind of statements to deny moves that end up happening a bit later, and this is firmly the belief in Brazil, with the outlet doubling down and trusting the information from their journalist Danilo Lavieri.

There’s still five days left in the transfer window, so time is still there for this Newcastle deal to go through, and perhaps the Ligue 1 side are simply trying to make it seem like they aren’t listening to anything just yet, buying themselves some time in an attempt to appease their fans.
