Remember Afriyie Acquah? How could Birmingham City fans forget.
One of the club’s summer transfer sagas, the midfielder almost arrived from Torino, only for the deal to fall apart.
Now it could be back on, with Torino wanting to recruit elsewhere. The Italian club believed they’d need Acquah so didn’t accept Birmingham City’s offer, but he’s only started 2 Serie A games and is now expendable.
Tuttosport have a look at the situation, and say a Premier League club trying to save themselves could be a good bet for Acquah, and then point out Birmingham City had an €8m offer refused in the summer.
This may be changing history slightly. At the time there were reports of a €7.5m offer from Birmingham, but Torino manager Sinisa Mihajlovic, who was sacked this month, publicly made it clear the big wasn’t anything like that.
Reports of a January exit for Acquah surfaced in November, and Sport Witness spoke to a source close to the midfielder who told us that nothing had been discussed between the player, his entourage and the club regarding a possible sale, and they weren’t aware of any situation that would lead to such an outcome.
Torino could be fishing for offers.
