Marcelo Bielsa has not returned to management since he left Leeds United in February 2022.
The 67-year-old had an opportunity to return to the Premier League last month but he ‘rejected’ an approach made by Everton.
According to TyC Sports, Bielsa could land a new job, just over a year after leaving Leeds.
Diego Alonso stepped down as La Celeste’s manager after failing to progress from the group stages of the World Cup. Marcelo Broli was in charge for the two friendly fixtures against Japan and South Korea this month.
Bielsa has been identified as the candidate to replace Alonso and ‘everything seems to be on track’ for the Argentine to return to the bench after his Leeds exit. The negotiations are in the final stretch for him to take charge of the South American nation.
He is expected to sign a deal with Uruguay until the 2024 Copa América qualifiers, with the possibility to extend it further until the 2026 World Cup, provided they qualify.
Bielsa’s year-long break after leaving Leeds is set to come to an end.
