Everton are ‘leading the race’ to sign Real Madrid’s Isco, according to Fichajes.net.

The midfielder started twice in the first three league matches, but has had to settle for limited playing time since then. He’s collected 166 minutes in six games.

With a contract expiring at the end of this season, the 29-year-old can leave Los Blancos as a free agent next summer. Therefore, several clubs in England are chasing him, report Fichajes.net.

The Spain international renewing contract with the La Liga side is ‘not at all clear’ and if there is no change in the situation, he will leave the Bernabéu. The question is whether it will be in the winter market or next summer, and where will he end up next.

‘Right now’, as per the report, there are two clubs ahead in the transfer chase. They are Everton and Leicester City.

Regarding the Toffees, Fichajes.net state Rafael Benítez has ‘asked’ Everton’s board to sign the former Malaga star.

The manager wants to make the Merseyside club one of the top clubs in the league and in order to do that, he needs top quality players. This is where Isco fits in.

Whether Everton will wait until next summer or try to get Isco to Merseyside in January remains to be seen.
