AS Roma could be set to do battle with Newcastle United for the signing of Vasco starlet Andrey Santos.

That’s according to AS Roma Live, who say Roma chief Tiago Pinto is a big fan of the youngster and would like to take him to Italy.

Newcastle United have been linked with Santos since the summer, having first made contact about a potential move in September.

There has been a slew of reports since then, with it recently revealed they had made a €20m bid but will need €35m if they wish to get him.

A January move for him is looking likely but it appears that they will face competition from Roma for his signature.

AS Roma Live explain that the Italian side have scouts in Brazil taking notes on several players and Santos is one of them.

Pinto had the player under observation when he was working at Benfica, and he’s remained interested in him since that point.

There is no suggestion that there has been a move or anything of that nature for now, just that Roma are one of the sides keeping an eye on him.

They’re scouting Brazil and if Santos continues to impress, could provide competition to Newcastle for his signature.
