As Manchester United refuse to give up on Frenkie de Jong, there is a feeling time is being wasted on the transfer market.

The situation surrounding the Dutchman is clearly tricky, and while he is the number one target for Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford, it simply might not be feasible.

That’s why there should be a cut off point when Manchester United simply give up and turn to other targets to improve their squad.

The recent talk of Adrien Rabiot seems to be entirely separate from the De Jong deal, and if the Red Devils move on from the Netherlands international, Sergej Milinković-Savić could come back into the picture.

That’s what Corriere dello Sport are suggesting on Monday, claiming that while the Serbian has ‘said no’ to both Newcastle and Arsenal, ‘he would say yes to Chelsea and perhaps (it cannot be ruled out) to Manchester United’.

Rumours ‘perceived around Formello’ suggest that if they fail in their bid to get De Jong, the Old Trafford side could ‘come out in the open on August 15th or soon after’ and make a move for Milinković-Savić.

At what price? €50m ‘may not be enough’, but €60m or €65m ‘could make Lazio falter’ if the player ‘pushed’ for a transfer and ‘reached an agreement’ with Manchester United.

Something to keep in mind as we approach August’s midway point.
