You might have heard over the weekend that Giovani Lo Celso, currently on loan at Villarreal from Tottenham, was injured at the weekend.
This comes just before the World Cup, where he could have been a part of the Argentina squad, but there wasn’t enough detail to know exactly how long the player was out for.
More tests have since been done on the Tottenham loanee, and, according to TyC Sports journalist Gastón Edul, ‘there is bad news’.
He took to Twitter to reveal that Lo Celso’s injury ‘is worrying’, and the medical staff are ‘going to repeat exams’ because the demander ‘is believed to be bigger than first thought’.
As things stand, it’s made clear there is no point getting overly panicked about it all without a definitive answers, but it is worrying, for the player, Villarreal and in some respect Tottenham.
The midfielder had been in good form under Unai Emery this season, scoring one goal in 13 appearances for the club to date.
The Argentine has a contract with Tottenham until 2025, and it was expected that he could return to Spurs come the end of the season.
For now, though, we wait.
