Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martínez, Tottenham Hotspur’s Cristian Romero, Chelsea’s Enzo Fernández, Manchester United defender Lisandro Martínez plus attacker Alejandro Garnacho, and Leicester City’s Facundo Buonanotte have been included in the Argentina squad for this month’s international break.
Buonanotte and Martínez faced each other when Manchester United hosted Leicester on Sunday. The Tottenham defender and the Chelsea midfielder were also in action that day while the goalkeeper started in Aston Villa’s defeat to Liverpool on Saturday.
The Premier League players travelled together to join the national team camp in Buenos Aires. According to Página 12, these five players didn’t arrive on time.
After representing their respective clubs, the stopper, Romero, Fernández, the Manchester United player and Buonanotte boarded British Airlines flight BA 249 to Argentina. The flight had a scheduled break in Rio de Janeiro, and upon its arrival in Brazil, the trip was cancelled.
This meant players from multiple Premier League clubs were left stranded in Brazil. The report says La Albiceleste sent a private jet to rescue them from the misery. The Aston Villa man even posted a picture on Instagram along with the Tottenham star and Lisandro Martínez.
Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho travelled by Air France and didn’t face a problem.
