Aston Villa are one of several clubs interested in RB Leipzig midfielder Emil Forsberg this summer.

That’s according to BILD, who say Steven Gerrard’s side stand ‘above all’ in the group of clubs to have shown interest.

They explain that the midfielder suddenly plays a reduced role under Domenico Tedesco and that is something other clubs have ‘registered’.

Aston Villa are one of them and, while Forsberg isn’t looking for a transfer at this moment in time, that could change.

The newspaper quotes his agent, who confirms there are interested parties but does not name Aston Villa directly.

“There are many inquiries for Emil. But so far a transfer has not been an issue because Emil loves the city and the club,” he said.

“Emil has always stood by the club. Now there is a rotation due to the many strong players, which is also ok.

“What is not ok at all is that Emil is not in this rotation. Emil trains well and deserves respect. But there are people in the club who don’t seem to want that.

“Every time it happens, Emil has to prove himself to a coach. That’s fine, too. But this time Emil is also thwarted in another place. Not the coach, not Oliver Mintzlaff. The one who prefers other players he knows from Salzburg.

“But that is not right. In the same way, it’s not right when he tries to influence the coach. If something doesn’t fit, then you have to discuss it openly.”

Those latter comments are certainly him opening the door to a transfer, with the point clear; either Forsberg plays more or he will have to look at something else.

That opens the door for Aston Villa to get their man and although at this point there is nothing concrete it may be one worth keeping an eye on as the transfer window enters its final weeks.
