The Brazilian battle for the signing of Aston Villa striker Wesley Moraes is now turning out to be quite entertaining.
Earlier today, UOL reported that the 25-year-old is set to have a meeting with São Paulo manager Rogério Ceni, who’ll explain the plans he has for the player in case they get to sign him on a one-year loan.
The Tricolor, however, aren’t the only side in the race, as they have the competition from Palmeiras and Internacional, with the latter having just submitted their official bid for the move.
It’s Globo Esporte who today reports the Colorado’s offer. Even though they don’t have any details on the bid, it’s made it clear that the attempt is now ‘formal’.
However, the player has now been interviewed by Nosso Palestra, a Palmeiras dedicated website, and made big compliments to the club.
“Palmeiras today are the best team in America. A European structure of work, dispute titles and have a very quality squad. Every player wants to play at organised clubs, winners and with structure.”
The striker even talked about the chances of playing the Club World Cup against Chelsea in February.
“It’d be really cool. And also a very big responsibility. Playing a Club World Cup for a team the size of Palmeiras is challenging.”
Wesley is officially loaned to Belgian side Club Brugge until the end of the season, but due to his little playing time there, he’s expected to have his spell terminated. Aston Villa are looking for a place where the striker can fully recover his form following his knee surgery, and Brazil now seems to be the most likely destination, with three big clubs fighting for the signing.
