In the summer, Lucas Bergvall arrived at Tottenham Hotspur after they agreed a deal with Djurgårdens IF Fotboll in February 2024.

The midfielder has played 1,746 minutes from 37 matches for Spurs this season and was part of the Sweden squad in the last three international breaks.

Sweden manager Jon Dahl Tomasson has selected the Tottenham player for the friendlies against Luxembourg and Norther Ireland later this month.

Jon Dahl Tomasson announced the squad on Wednesday and then spoke to reporters. Fotbollskanalen cover the comments made by the Dane about Bergvall.

The national team boss revealed he’s in regular contact with Tottenham technical director Johan Lange about the 19-year-old. During the conversation, the Spurs official told him a little bit of trivia related to the rising star.

“I’ve spoken to Tottenham too and they told me a story that I actually didn’t know. That the last player to go from a league in Scandinavia straight to the Premier League and play this much in his debut season was Daniel Agger. Many years ago. That says a little about Lucas’ performance as a very young player,” he said.

Agger graduated from Brøndby’s youth system and spent two years with their first team before moving to Liverpool in January 2006. The former Denmark international spent over eight years with the Reds before returning to Brøndby in August 2014.

The former Blackburn Rovers manager has also highlighted Bergvall’s mentality.

“I like that he is very humble and wants to get better all the time,” he explained.

“We all know that he scored an own goal against AZ, and that can happen to anyone. But the game after that he played 45 minutes and did very well. That says a lot about his mentality.”
