Aston Villa star Douglas Luis is finally returning to the Brazilian national team.
The midfielder hadn’t played for his country since 2021 and wasn’t even a contender to go to the 2022 World Cup. Now with manager Fernando Diniz in charge, he has a new chance to prove himself with the yellow jersey.
The coach has held a press conference, and is quoted by Globo Esporte speaking of the Aston Villa player.
“Douglas is one of the highlights of the Premier League, he’s a player who’s been monitored here for a long time. He’s been in the first team, an Olympic champion,” said Diniz.
Douglas Luiz’s last match for Brazil was in the World Cup qualifiers, in October 2021, when he had a few minutes on the pitch against Uruguay. Back then, he had already been left out of a few call-ups and was just fighting to be in the race for a place in the tournament in Qatar.
His form at Aston Villa was never a problem, though, and he’s off to another good start at the Premier League side, now even going through some goalscoring form, with six goals this season so far.
Now let’s see how he does in Brazil’s upcoming matches against Colombia and Argentina.
