Aston Villa have started ‘direct negotiations’ with Ligue 2’s Caen to sign youngster Tidiam Gomes in this transfer window.
That’s according to L’Equipe, who report that Aston Villa have decided to ‘enter negotiations for the 18-year-old as they continue to target the French market.
The newspaper explains that Gomes has been the focus of transfer talk for several windows but, up to now, has always remained with the French side.
However, the U19 international’s contract ends in June 2025 and so the time has now come for a decision to be made. Either they sell now, or he leaves on a free transfer later this year.
Aston Villa want to take advantage of that and have started initial negotiations with Caen’s leadership about the youngster.
According to L’Equipe, Aston Villa’s leadership are keen on the youth market in France and have been showing increased interest in it in recent weeks.
This has led to the Gomes, who has two goals and two assists in Ligue 2 this season and 19 appearances in all competitions to date.
There is no mention of a fee that Aston Villa would be willing to pay at this point, just that they are advancing and have opened formal talks about a deal.
