Watford winger Ismaïla Sarr’s move to Aston Villa has been ‘completely frozen’, according to Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna.

Leeds United and Crystal Palace showed interest in the winger, but the Villans were said to have won the race for his signature.

A report from Foot Mercato on Sunday said Aston Villa have already reached a verbal agreement with Watford over a deal worth €28m for the former Rennes man’s transfer.

It was also said the 24-year-old underwent medical tests with Steven Gerrard’s side on Sunday and has ‘successfully passed’ them.

Although Foot Mercato said the Senegal international’s move to Villa Park was ‘imminent’, there seem to be a new twist in this case.

Aouna, who wrote Foot Mercato’s report yesterday, took to Twitter on Monday to state the deal to take the Watford player to Aston Villa has been ‘completely frozen’.

This happened because of the ‘disagreements’ that arose between the two parties.

It remains to be seen whether Aston Villa and Watford will enter into a new round of talks or will Sarr now has to find a new club to make a move away from the Hornets before the window closes.
