The Portuguese press regularly releases the list of scouts who watched the local games, but they aren’t always certain of which player each club were watching.
That’s why it was interesting to see that this week, they claimed that Arsenal were specially scouting Danilo Pereira from Porto. That wasn’t the kind of news we often see.
And now it’s happened again.
The Gunners were in the list of emissaries who watched Benfica’s cup game against Portimonense last night, and according to O Jogo, they were there to keep an eye on Andrija Zivkovic.
The newspaper claims that Arsenal have interest in the winger and could even make a bid for him in the January transfer window.
Arsenal have been linked to Zivkovic for quite a few months now. We even thought this interest could have gone cold, because when saying the player wanted to leave Benfica this winter, Correio da Manhã did not include Arsene Wenger’s side in the list of destinations.
With less than 700 minutes played this season, Zivkovic isn’t really impressing for the Lisbon side, and that’s a reason why we’d put Arsenal’s interest in doubt. But maybe Wenger has seen the qualities of the 21-year-old.
Problem is that even though he hasn’t been playing enough for Benfica, the Eagles would certainly ask for a lot of money in case a club like Arsenal come for him. It’s worth recalling that Zivkovic has a €60m release clause.
