Arsenal were ‘close’ to signing Thomas Lemar from Atlético Madrid in January and could be presented with a second bite of the cherry this summer.
That’s according to Marca, who say the Frenchman has been ‘chosen’ as the player the club can sell this summer to raise money.
With Coronavirus decimating budgets across Europe the Spanish club are looking at who can be moved on, particularly with them planning something of an overhaul.
Lemar is at the top of the list, with the midfielder having struggled to find any form since arriving at the club.
The 24-year-old arrived in a £63m deal from Monaco in 2018 but has managed just three goals and six assists in 67 appearances for the club.
They’d be happy to move him on this summer, and the Premier League appears to be a ‘possible destination’ for him.
Arsenal have long been linked with a move and, according to the newspaper were close to completing a deal in the January transfer window.
They, then, could be interested again in the summer transfer window, although whether they’d be willing to pay Atlético’s asking price is debatable.
The Spanish side will be determined to recoup much of what they paid and with finances at the Emirates reportedly tight, they may struggle to match those desires.
