Arsenal have ‘set their sights’ on Sevilla youngster Antonio Zarzana after his performances at the recent Algarve Tournament.

The 17-year-old Zarzana was one of the shining lights with Spain’s Under 18 team during the competition, and that has attracted attention from several clubs, according to Estadio Deportivo.

Zarzana has been gaining plenty of interest in recent years, with Sevilla handing him a professional contract early in his career to thwart interest from the likes of Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Liverpool.

Indeed, he rejected a ‘serious and firm’ proposal from Madrid this summer as his dream is to play in Sevilla’s first-team.

However, that is ‘a long way off’, as despite the fact he made his debut in the second division at just sixteen years old, he is not part of Sevilla Atlético manager Paco Gallardo’s plans.

That has alerted some of the big clubs in Europe, Arsenal among them, who were attracted to him because of his performances at the tournament in the Algarve.

The Gunners are the ones at the front of the queue, though, with Estadio saying of the suitors, they are the ones most ‘threatening’ to take him away from the club.

There is no mention of a transfer bid, or indeed any contact from Arsenal at this stage, just that the interest is there and they’re seemingly ahead of the competition.
