Even though Arsenal are unlikely to sign Pepê from Porto this summer, that doesn’t mean the Gunners have stopped having the winger as a transfer target.
Portuguese newspaper A Bola today features a long-page story about the 25-year-old, first telling how his versatility can help Porto this season, and then pointing out this interest from the Gunners.
It’s recalled that Fabio Vieira wasn’t the only player from the Dragons who caught Arsenal’s attention this season because the Premier League side also made an approach for Pepê, learning the conditions for a summer move, and heard that they’d need to trigger his €70m release clause to sign him.
The Gunners then placed an offer worth €40m, which was deemed insufficient, and that’s where the pursuit stopped for now.
Still, according to A Bola, Pepê continues to be ‘well referenced’ by Arsenal.
It’s said Mikel Arteta’s side ‘promise to be attentive’ to the player’s performances in the Champions League this season.
So, perhaps, they could soon be more convinced of spending that much money to sign the Brazilian.
