There was some confusion with regards to Arsenal’s interest in Atlético Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey in April.

The Ghana international’s father stated talks were ongoing with the Gunners, but these claims were dismissed by his agent.

Mikel Arteta’s side continue to be linked with the 26-year-old, and Cadena Ser (as relayed by Mundo Deportivo) brings the latest update.

It’s claimed Diego Simeone’s side have RCD Mallorca’s Iddrisu Baba as a potential candidate to replace his compatriot. Baba signed an extension until 2024 and has a €45m release clause in his contract.

Premier League clubs are lurking for Thomas, who has a buyout clause of €50m.

According to report, the Atlético player’s asking price is ‘accessible to Arsenal’, who are the ‘most interested’ club in acquiring his services.

Apart from Baba, Getafe’s Mauro Arambarri has also been identified as a midfielder target by Atlético. The latter’s release clause is €25m and he is ‘very much’ liked by Simeone.

Getafe president Ángel Torres Sánchez wouldn’t provide any discount for the Uruguayan, but he could be tempted by one or more Atlético player(s) being included as part of the deal.

With Arsenal mentioned as the ‘most interested’ side for Thomas, it remains to be seen whether or not the north London club will complete his signing this summer.
