When Thomas Partey’s father seemingly confirmed negotiations with Arsenal today, his quotes created a big fuss in the Spanish and English media.
Speaking to a radio station in Ghana, Jacob Partey said talks were ongoing, suggested a deal was on the way, and said he’d be happy to see his son sign for the Gunners.
But it turns out that soon after the international media started covering the story, the midfielder’s representatives came out denying these talks.
JJSports, who manage his career, are now quoted by Marca saying: “This is all fake”.
Marca, just like other Spanish outlets, continue their report saying Arsenal aren’t even in contact with Atletico Madrid so far.
It’s claimed that the only talks actually taking place are for the player to extend his contract with the La Liga side. Partey’s current deal expires in 2023, and the Colchoneros are lookin to protecting him with a new deal.
One of the reasons is to change his current €50m release clause.
There’s a possibility the agency are trying keep Atletico happy, otherwise Partey Sr hasn’t been telling the truth.
