For the past three years or so, Sergej Milinković-Savić has been touted with a move to the Premier League without it ever happening.
While Manchester United have been the ones more often than not named, Arsenal appear to have overtaken them in that regard, with the Gunners now being pushed as the most interested side in the Serbian.
Taking part in the World Cup, the Lazio star wasn’t able to help his country get past the group stages, and has since returned to Italy from the tournament.
He will now prepare for the second half of the season, which most expect him to see off in Italy, but that all depends on what other clubs, like Arsenal, do.
The midfielder has 18 months left on his contract at Lazio, and it seems a renewal is off the table for the time being, as it’s always been made clear he wants to play in the Champions League.
In fact, Gazzetta dello Sport make it clear he ‘doesn’t want to renew’ his deal in Rome, and his disappointing performances in the World Cup haven’t increased his price.
His valuation has ‘dropped to one of the lowest points in recent history’ (with Gazzetta estimating it at €50m), but that hasn’t put off interested clubs, where Juventus and Milan like him in Italy, while abroad, there are ‘a lot from the Premier League’, with ‘Arsenal in the lead’.
Basically, January might be the ideal time for Edu, Mikel Arteta and the Gunners as a whole to strike.
