Arsenal’s inclusion as a founding member of the Super League was confirmed over the weekend.
There’s still no clarity over when the newly formed European league will start, if it takes off, but that’s not stopped the Gunners from planning to build their squad for next season.
That’s according to Fichajes.net, who say the north London club want to strengthen their right-back position because Héctor Bellerín’s continuity is uncertain.
The Spaniard is attracting interest from other clubs from Europe, and therefore, Mikel Arteta’s side have identified Emerson Royal as his potential replacement.
It’s claimed the Emirates club are ‘interested in acquiring the services’ of the 22-year-old, who is co-owned by Real Betis and Barcelona.
The Catalan club retain an option to buy the player for €6m after this season. If they don’t exercise the option, the fullback, who has impressed in La Liga this term, will continue with Manuel Pellegrini’s side.
According to Fichajes.net, Emerson’s contract situation is ‘not yet defined’, and Arsenal want to ‘take advantage’ of this situation to make an attempt for his signing.
The Premier League side, however, will have to face competition from Paris Saint-Germain.
It’s claimed PSG are also interested in Bellerín, but they find Emerson more attractive than the Arsenal player.
