When it was announced that Manchester United were going to sign Rasmus Højlund from Atalanta, there was one man who will have been checking the fee.
That’s Joachim Andersen, who plays for Crystal Palace, as he, until this summer, held the record for the most Danish player in history.
Højlund’s transfer to Manchester United very much obliterated that, and it’s something the Eagles defender was asked about by a journalist during the first round of interviews during international break with Denmark, relayed by Ekstrabladet.
He said: “It’s annoying as hell. No, it’s great that Rasmus has made this move. It’s also deserved. He has done well. Manchester United were in need of a striker, so it makes sense that they buy a good one.”
Andersen was bought by Crystal Palace for €17.5m back in 2021, while Højlund’s deal is worth a potential €75m.
Not only was the Eagles defender transfer amount surpassed by the Manchester United transfer, but it was also broken once more a few weeks later, when Napoli spent €30m on Jesper Lindstrøm from Eintracht Frankfurt.
Højlund has since made just one appearance for the Red Devils, coming on as a substitute against Arsenal in their last game.
As for Andersen, he is now an established starter at Crystal Palace, starting and finishing all four Premier League matches to date this season, scoring one goal.
