At 4.37am on Saturday, Borussia Dortmund sent out a tweet saying Andre Schurrle wouldn’t be involved in their friendly against Manchester City because he’s in talks to join another club.
Dortmund won the match 1-0 thanks to a goal from Mario Gotze, but the German media are more full of the Schurrle story.
The former Chelsea player has been expected to leave BVB this summer, after being a disappointment largely since his arrival.
The Bundesliga club haven’t released the name of the interested side, and there’s speculation on that. Germany’s Fussball Transfers suggest it could be Crystal Palace, with them being the last club concrete interest was reported from.
A little dip into the Sport Witness archives shows that on July 17th, German newspaper Bild reported Crystal Palace interest and suggested Schurrle could be used in a deal which would see Wilfried Zaha move to Dortmund.
The Palace star was valued at around €30m which seemed on the low side even before it was reported Everton may be paying £50m for Richarlison.
Even Schurrle plus €30m doesn’t look like a hugely attractive deal.
