Patrick Cutrone’s struggles at Fiorentina have convinced them to cut the Wolverhampton Wanderers player’s loan deal in the winter market.
This has been repeatedly stressed in the Italian press over the past few months, with reports even linking the striker to a handful of Serie A clubs. On Thursday morning, Wolves announced the player would be returning, and be part of Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad for the rest of the season.
On January 6th, Sky Italia reported Marseille had taken an interest in the 23-year-old.
André Villas-Boas wants his side to bring in a new striker in the ongoing window and Sky Italia explained the Ligue 1 side had identified the Wolves man as one of their targets.
Cutrone’s fine performances and impressive goalscoring record [10 goals in 17 league starts] in Serie A with AC Milan helped him get a move to Wolves in 2019.
“He’s a striker that I like a lot. He started very strong with an exceptional season at AC Milan at an age when young people do not generally play in Italy,” Le Mée said.
“Now, it is clear that he is still living a little on this one big season at Milan, because what he did not do next at Wolverhampton was not very convincing, and even very disappointing.
“The same since he was loaned to Fiorentina. For me, he remains a very good player, but I am not sure that his is the ideal profile for OM, who rather need a physically powerful attacker.
“That’s not really Cutrone’s primary characteristic, and that’s partly why Prandelli doesn’t play him. His profile is quite similar to that of Benedetto.”
Le Mée is not Cutrone’s representative, but was asked to give his take on Sky’s report about Marseille interest in the Wolves player.
