Here’s the agent of Lucas Alario once again claiming the player had the chance to join Tottenham Hotspur.

This is a saga which has been going on for quite some time now. It started back in 2016, with representative Pedro Alvade confirming that Spurs were chasing the striker back then.

Another attempt, according to the agent, happened last summer. Speaking to TNT Sports, he claimed Tottenham tried to sign Alario on loan from Bayer Leverkusen, and the move didn’t happen because he wouldn’t have had a place in the team.

Now Alvade has been speaking again, this time to TyC Sports. And it turns out that, at least according to him, Spurs made another attempt in the January window.

“The Tottenham thing was to be done, but it was to change the country for six months so as not to play either, to be the fourth striker. He decided to stay, but everything is discussed to grow,” Pedro Aldave told TyC Sports (via Estadio Deportivo).

“There were other ‘chances’ last market, last year Betis were an option a year ago and Tottenham, six months ago. They did not want to give him on loan, because they paid the clause and maintained that they were keeping two forwards. We tried to leave and had offers, but then came the pandemic.”

This long time interest now makes us wonder if Tottenham could return for Alario this summer. The player seems to be ready for a move, since his agent claims he’d like to switch leagues, and a return to River Plate is ruled out.

“I do not see it well for him to return. For a lot of factors. He has a couple of seasons before going back. From my point of view. This is not the time. He’s going to try to go to another league and succeed, because, if he comes back now, two years go by immediately, and then it’s hard to go back to Europe.

“At some point he’s going to take a leap. He has one year left on his contract and the club want to renew it, but we want to try another league. We have found ways.”
