Leeds United confirmed on Tuesday they have completed the signing of Dani van den Heuvel from Ajax.
The 17-year-old has signed a three-year deal with the newly promoted Premier League side and he will initially be part of the Whites’ U23 squad.
Van den Heuvel featured for the Dutch club’s U17 side last season and they wanted to retain the youngster in Amsterdam.
This is according to Voetbal International, who state the Eredivisie side offered the Netherlands youth international a new contract.
However, the young keeper ‘ignored a disappointing proposal’ from Ajax and opted for a ‘foreign adventure’, which is Leeds United.
“At Leeds, Dani has more prospects than at Ajax. The club’s first team goalkeeper [Illan Meslier] is 20 years old. That indicates that they have an eye for young goalkeepers. The club really wants to invest in him and has a clear plan in mind. It’s a nice step for him,” Kramp explained.
Leeds converted Meslier’s loan deal into permanent last month. Apart from the Frenchman, Marcelo Bielsa also has Kiko Casilla at his disposal and the Spaniard was largely used by the manager last season.
Van den Heuvel must prove his worth in the lower categories to improve his chances of making it to Leeds’ first team.
