Taking over from Alessandro Florenzi at the Euros, Giovanni Di Lorenzo was a surprise package that a few opponents weren’t ready for.

The Napoli right-back, who was playing for Matera in the lower tiers of Italian football just four years ago, has caught the eye over the past few years in Serie A, attracting alleged interest from Manchester United in the process.

Reports date all the way back to March of last year, when it was claimed the Red Devils initiated contact for the right-back, but nothing concrete has ever taken off.

The right-back position is one Manchester United could do with some extra depth at, meaning the links make some sense, but it appears the Premier League club aren’t even in the mix.

On Monday, it was explained by CalcioNapoli24 there had been ‘no confirmation’ of Napoli receiving an offer from the Old Trafford side, and his agent has clarified the situation even further on Monday by directly addressing the rumours sending his client to the north of England.

Speaking to Si Gonfia La Rate, relayed by the very same CalcioNapoli24, he said: “If proposals arrive, we are obliged to take them into consideration, also in the interest of Napoli because it’s the president himself who has put everyone on the market, so we feel we are on the market.

“If an appropriate offer arrives, it’s discussed and considered. For now, it’s newspaper talk. I’ve read about Manchester United, but now it’s newspaper talk. If there were real things, we would be the ones to communicate it to Napoli. At the moment, no request has arrived”.

That’s cleared that up, then.
