Manchester United have made an approach for the signing of Napoli fullback Giovanni Di Lorenzo, according to claims on Monday.

Website Calcio Napoli 24 says that last month, the Red Devils made contact with his agent in order to get more information on signing the 26-year-old.

The outlet makes it clear that Di Lorenzo has been an important piece for the Italian club, both for former manager Carlo Ancelotti as for Gennaro Gattuso now.

They say ‘we shall see’ if Manchester United will seriously come for the player, who’s currently protected with a contract until 2024 after being signed on a €8m deal from Empoli last summer.

Manchester United seem to be completely fine with Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the right-back position, so a move would only make sense in case backup options such as Diogo Dalot and Timothy Fosu-Mensah leave the club in the summer.

Another factor that would make the move more reasonable is that Di Lorenzo has been a versatile player this season, having featured in central defence and at left-back as well.
