If there’s one thing Ismaïla Sarr will be remembered for this season at Watford, it’ll be his performance against Liverpool, where the forward managed to bag himself a brace and assist the third in a 3-0 win over the Premier League champions.
The Senegal international was transferred to Vicarage Road last summer from Rennes in exchange for a fee of €30m, and has done rather well in his first season in the Premier League.
Scoring five goals and picking up another five assists in 25 league appearances, the 22-year-old has laid down the foundations to grow in the league, as long as Watford avoid relegation.
Many could see his move to the Hornets as a poor one considering how things have gone for the team this season, but that’s not how his agent, Thierno Seydi, sees it.
Speaking to APS, relayed by Senalioune, he said: “Despite their situation, we are convinced to have made the right choice by moving him from Rennes to Watford, a club who had good results the previous years but who are unfortunately going through a more difficult season this year’.
Touching upon the fact Sarr could have gone to Barcelona before his move to Rennes in 2017, Seydi pointed out a career isn’t rushed, and uses Sadio Mané as the perfect example, as he left Metz for RB Salzburg before his moves to Southampton and then Liverpool.
As for Sarr, the agent is pleased with how things have gone.
He said: “He’s doing a serious season, and it’s the Covid-19 pandemic that took the wind from his sail. Thankfully, they still have their destiny in their hands, and I hope and pray they will stay up in England’s elite”.
Watford currently sit 17th in the Premier League, three points in front of 18th placed Bournemouth.
