In a surprising turns of events considering they just spent over £20m on Swansea’s André Ayew, West Ham have made a bid for another winger.
According to L’Equipe on Tuesday afternoon, the London club are reported to have placed a €8m bid (not counting bonuses) for Lyon’s Rachid Ghezzal.
The 24-year-old only has one year left on his contract, and Lyon would much rather see him stay for the foreseeable future rather than let him go, but the player’s reluctance to commit to the club is starting to prove problematic.
This doesn’t mean the player actively wants to leave, but more that both parties are yet to reach terms that suit everyone.
Rather than seeing him leave on a free next season, the French side might be inclined to get as much money as possible from a sale, and L’Equipe suggest they could allow him to hold talks with West Ham.
The daily newspaper also state Ghezzal and Lyon are due to hold more talks later on this week about his future, and West Ham’s offer is likely to be an important part of the discussion.
