Gabriel Jesus’ contract extension with Manchester City shouldn’t be signed anytime soon, according to the latest reports from Brazil.
Even though the announcement of a new deal seemed to be a matter of time, the talks haven’t been progressing as expected, and now should be left for later this year.
Brazilian outlet UOL reports that Manchester City had offered Jesus an increase of 40%, but that wasn’t accepted by the player.
The striker’s counter-offer is considered to be too much for the Premier League side, and that’s why the agreement couldn’t be found as easily as expected.
But with the current deal running until 2021, there’s no hurry for a new one. That’s why according to UOL, the player is completely focused on the end of the season with City and the World Cup, so the contract matter should be handled later.
UOL doesn’t mention any pressure or threats from the player’s side to get a new deal, so a move isn’t even a possibility right now. It’s just a matter of working on an agreement with the club.
