Newcastle United are now the latest club said to be on the list of pretenders for Sporting striker Seydou Doumbia.
With the Ivorian player set to leave Alvalade this summer, the race for him is only growing, at least according to what has been reported by the Portuguese press.
Today, it’s Jornal de Notícias who has a very short story about the player, claiming that three clubs are currently keen on signing him: Newcastle United, Everton and Basel.
Everton had already been linked to Doumbia in the January window, when a chance to get him on a cheap price was presented. Basel, for whom the striker has already played before, also have their interest pretty well known in Portugal.
Now this Newcastle interest seems to be something new, and it’s actually very curious that Rafa Benitez’ side are keen on signing him back.
Doumbia already had a very short spell at Newcastle in 2016. He signed for the club on a loan deal from Roma and only stayed between January and June. His time in England wasn’t the best, and he only made three appearances for the Magpies, and couldn’t score a single goal.
Now according to recent reports, he should be available for around €7m. Jornal de Notícias only claims he’s Newcastle and Everton ‘radar’, so it would also take a long way until the club actually bid for him.
