During the January transfer window, Leicester City were repeatedly linked with a move for Andre Almeida.
The Benfica right back has been attracting interest from several clubs but Leicester were said to have made contact and were seriously interested in signing the player.
Unfortunately, the Foxes didn’t want to pay more than €5m for the fullback, according to the Portuguese media, and that wasn’t anywhere near Benfica’s valuation.
The Lisbon side were said to be looking for around three times that figure for a sale during the January window.
Leicester City were also linked with a move for Rafa Silva, a Benfica wide player who hasn’t quite hit the heights expected since his transfer from Braga.
A move would have been an initial loan with a buying option in the summer.
Neither deal came off, but Leicester clearly still have a similar transfer plan, with a club official spotted at Benfica’s Saturday match against Boavista, report Record.
Benfica won the game 4-0, and both Almeida and Silva played, having steady games.
Another Portuguese newspaper, O Jogo, also covered the scouting trip.
They came straight out and stated Leicester City will have been there to watch Almeida, ahead of a potential move in the summer window.
Manchester United ‘spies’ were also present, along with others from AS Roma, Metz and Lens.
