Arne Engels arrived at Celtic on summer transfer deadline day with Brendan Rodgers’ side signing him from FC Augsburg, a year after he joined them from Club Brugge.

The midfielder has impressed for Celtic this season, scoring three goals and registering six assists from 15 games. His performances have also helped him make his debut for Belgium in September.

On Wednesday, Brendan Rodgers’ side will host Club Brugge in the Champions League at Celtic Park.

Het Laatste Nieuws have had a chat with Engels about Celtic’s clash against his former club and his comments are relayed by Voetbal Krant. He found out the Scottish champions will face Club Brugge when travelling with his agent to complete a move to Celtic Park.

The Belgium international wasn’t able to control his excitement after finding out the two clubs will face each other in the Champions League.

“Wednesday, November 27th, has been marked in my agenda for two months. I’m really looking forward to playing against Club Brugge,” he said.

“Did you know I was on my way to sign for Celtic when the Champions League draw was in progress? I was on my way to the airport with my agent and we were following the draw.

“I remember saying that I just wanted to see Club Brugge and Celtic roll out of that ball. Suddenly both teams were linked. I started nudging my agent and shouting in that taxi. That driver didn’t realise what was happening [laughs].”

Celtic started the Champions League campaign with a 5-1 win over Slovan Bratislava and then suffered a 7-1 defeat to Borussia Dortmund. Since then, they drew against Atalanta and registered a 3-1 win over RB Leipzig at home.

Ahead of the clash against the Jupiler Pro League side, Engels talked about the defeat to BVB.

“I’m looking forward to playing football against Club Brugge. Although they are playing well, lol. But we can say the same. The 7-1 defeat on the Borussia Dortmund? A learning moment… Against RB Leipzig we showed our true face. Especially at home, we are very dominant. It could be fun against Club Brugge,” Engels explained.
