Last month, we covered claims from Argentina which stated Newcastle United are in the picture to sign Boca Juniors’ Kevin Zenón.
On October 18th, O Jogo reported Benfica are making an attempt to get ahead of Eddie Howe’s side and Real Madrid in the transfer chase.
Newcastle’s interest in the 23-year-old is now backed up by Pasión Fútbol, who provide the latest on the Magpies.
At the start of this year, Zenón joined the Argentine club from Unión Santa Fe and he’s made 42 appearances in all competitions, managing five goals and seven assists in the process.
Zenón has mainly operated as a left wing-back but has been used across several other attacking positions at Boca Juniors. The Tyneside club are one of the teams following him.
The versatile player impressed for Argentina at the Olympics and the report states if he regains the same level at Boca Juniors, Newcastle ‘won’t hesitate to come looking’ for him.
Zenón is ‘wanted’ by the Premier League side, and they could make an approach if he impresses for Boca Juniors.
The Argentina U23 international’s deal lasts until December 2028 and the outlet states it includes a $15m [€14.3m] release clause, which should be affordable for Newcastle.
Amid Newcastle’s interest, Boca Juniors manager Fernando Gago doesn’t want to lose the player, and his side would like to renew his contract in order to raise the clause.
