Manor Solomon is spending the current season on loan at Leeds United, having failed to force his way into Ange Postecoglou’s core plans at Tottenham Hotspur.
Despite being hit by a hamstring injury, the 25-year-old has made six appearances for the Championship club, although it’s fair to say he’s perhaps not getting the minutes he hoped for.
Three of the past four games have seen him come on as a substitute and he’s still trying to find his feet and convince Daniel Farke he should be starting every Leeds United match.
Solomon had been playing for Shakhtar Donetsk when the Russian invasion of Ukraine began. He was able to use a UEFA ruling to help him go out on loan, and moved to Fulham on that basis.
There’s frustration from Shakhtar Donetsk that they haven’t made money from any of that.
The Ukraine club face Young Boys in the Champions League on Wednesday, and ahead of that match club director Serhii Palkin has spoken to the Swiss media and shared his frustration over the transfer losses.
Neue Zürcher Zeitung quote him as saying about Solomon: “We transferred €6m to his club Maccabi Petah Tikva. We found him, trained him and invested in him. That was the only reason he reached a market value of €15m. But then a year later he went to Fulham without us seeing a single cent.
“You have to imagine it. One country attacks another, and the world football association punishes the attacked party.”
