Real Betis are guaranteed to make a profit on Johnny Cardoso in future, even if Tottenham take up their option to sign him at any point.
That’s according to Marca, who report that the 23-year-old represents ‘sure value’ for the Spanish side on the pitch and off it.
A report earlier today explained how there is a growing belief at Betis that Tottenham will come for Cardoso in the near future. They have an option to buy him for €25m next summer after negotiating a clause as part of the sale of Giovanni Lo Celso.
Marca now expand on that, explaining that Cardoso is a ‘sure value on the pitch and in the market’ at this moment in time.
He was recently one of the star performers in the win over Atlético de Madrid, proving to be ‘orderly and intelligent’ on the ball, dangerous going forwards and ‘destructive’ defensively.
Tottenham will be the first in the queue on that front as they have a ‘preferential purchase option’ on him valued at €25m. That cannot be exercised until June next year. There has also been talk of ‘preferential rights’ before then but this has not been confirmed by Betis.
Either way, should Tottenham buy at €25m that would mean a net profit of around €15.2m for Betis after payments, such as one to former club Porto Alegre, are made.
That in itself is a major positive but there’s also the fact that they used it to bring down the price of Lo Celso from €20m to €5m. The Argentine has been starring since his return so that proved to be very smart.
Whether Cardoso can continue his current rise remains to be seen but there is a growing insistence that Betis will make a profit on him and the deal with Tottenham was smarter than it initially appeared.
