Last month, Sport reported Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez is ready to open the door for Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The right-back has less than a year left on his deal and his long-term future still needs to be clarified.

Monday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo claims the Liverpool star is the ‘main target’ for the La Liga side next summer.

At the weekend, Dani Carvajal suffered a serious knee injury in his side’s league win over Villarreal. The Spain international’s setback leaves Carlo Ancelotti with 33-year-old Lucas Vázquez as the only recognised right-back in the squad. The latter’s deal lasts until 2025.

The report states the Champions League winners could change their plans for Alexander-Arnold because of Carvajal’s injury. They could try and sign the Liverpool fullback in the winter market.

It would be ‘complicated’ for the La Liga side to sign the 26-year-old England international in January. He’s a regular under Arne Slot, making nine appearances in all competitions this season.

Mundo state Liverpool will not let Alexander-Arnold ‘leave easily’ in the next window and more so for an affordable price. It seems likely that Real Madrid could sign him at the end of this season, provided he doesn’t sign an extension at Anfield.

Given all of that, Sport and Mundo Deportivo are both primarily Catalan newspaper, and there’s not much coming from the media closest to Real Madrid.
