Samuel Edozie left Southampton on September 4th for a new adventure, this time in Belgian football. The 21-year-old has joined Anderlecht for the season, and was seen as something of an exciting signing.

So far he’s made three appearances on the left wing in the Jupiler Pro League, and this week he should get a start against Hungary’s Ferencvaros in the UEFA Europa League.

Whilst it’s still early days, it looks like Edozie will be getting the prominence that he and Southampton will have desired when agreeing the loan move to Anderlecht.

But there’s been a little drama already… the Belgian club have sacked their manager Brian Riemer.

Wheeled out in front of the media ahead of the Europa League match – which surely suggests he’ll start – Edozie was asked about the feeling around the camp after Riemer got the boot.

Het Nieuwsblad quote him as saying: “The feeling is good. I enjoy my game, that’s the most important thing. The fact that the coach was fired has no influence on my integration. The teammates welcomed me well. I feel welcome here. It is nothing new to me that the coach was fired in the middle of the season. At Southampton we once had three coaches in one season.”

That level of Saints-life experience simply can’t be purchased and has helped sent the youngster up for a career of managerial chaos.

More seriously, Edozie was also asked the areas of his game he can still develop: “What do I still need to improve? My last action. I need to score more goals or assists after my dribble.”

David Hubert is currently interim manager at Anderlecht. The Southampton-owned player will know not to get too attached.
