Moussa Sissoko has already made it clear he’s considering his future at Tottenham Hotspur. Getting in France’s next squad through the fortune of being Didier Deschamps’ pet player, Sissoko told France’s SFR that he’s going to think about what’s best for his future.
In France there’s an assumption that Sissoko will be keen to leave Tottenham quickly, especially with the World Cup appearing on the horizon. Sissoko, thanks to Deschamps, has a better chance than most of making the squad, but he needs to be getting regular football for it not to become embarrassing for the France manager.
Perhaps fortunately for both Sissoko and Tottenham, Le Journal du Dimanche reports today that Marseille are interested. Sissoko, an Arsenal and PSG fan, could complete the double by playing for both their fiercest rivals.
Marseille’s sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta had a brief chat with Sissoko about the potential in April, using a Toulouse event as cover. Sissoko was said to be open to the move but wants assurances on Marseille’s ambitions.
Despite failing miserably at Tottenham and having a poor final season at Newcastle United, Sissoko’s stock remains high enough to make such a statement plausible.
Le Journal du Dimanche point out that Mauricio Pochettino never wanted Sissoko, it was a transfer done by the ‘president’ of Spurs. By that they mean Daniel Levy, and he may have to clean up his own mess with this one.
It’s stated Marseille can pay €25m for Sissoko, whether they will is an entirely different matter.
