Anderlecht general director Herman Van Holsbeeck has told the Belgian media he isn’t sure about selling Youri Tielemans to a club like Manchester City. The young Belgian has been linked with a move to the Premier League this summer, along with clubs in Spain and France.

Voetbal Nieuws have reported on comments made by Van Holsbeeck when he was asked about the future of Tilemans.

The Anderlecht chief said there is a possibility of selling the 19-year-old to a club like Manchester City. However, with the World Cup next year in Russia Van Holsbeeck doesn’t think Tielemans moving to such a big club would be good for his career.

“I could sell Tielemans to Manchester City, but I’m not sure that this is an ideal club for him,” said the Anderlecht manager.

In recent months speculation has increased Tielemans will be leaving Anderlecht in the next window, with the Premier League a strong possibility for the young midfielder. However, like Van Holsbeeck, some Belgian commentators think Tielemans shouldn’t sign for a major European club because this could affect his development.

Clubs like Manchester City may not able to give him the playing time he needs at this stage of his career, especially in relation to his World Cup chances. It’s been reported for some time that a deal to move to Monaco has been agreed and, whilst that still seems to be case, Van Holsbeeck has edged away from it in recent days.
